Cedaro Town, a humble little community in the Cedaro mountains - tucked away from the rest of Keraeya. Cedaro was built around a large mountain spring surrounded by rocky hills, and wide cobbled roads line its perimeter. Bushes and shrubbery grow the cracks in the rocky earth, but not many trees find space to grow – leaving little shade for people and pokemon seeking a refuge from the scorching sun.
Stretching around the southern side of the spring lies the town’s small residential area – home to many families seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city life that seems so common around Keraeya. To the east and west, markets. People making their living selling and buying rare stones found in crevices deeper in the mountain, or genuine Mareep wool clothing from their ranch down in Juna Town. Finally, at the northern end of the spring, a cobblestone path leads through a small pass and out into the wilderness of Route 1. The great unknown.
As individuals, you have seen each other around the town - but have never personally met before. Each of you have been sent a letter summoning you to the centre of the market place to talk with the mayor of Cedaro for an unknown matter of apparent pressing concern.

Franz Darthoon:
Brilliant rainbow bursts of light flood your vision. You’re in a town, by the ocean. The light appears to be coming from inside of a small rock, one of the many lining the beach before the sand and waves begin. You begin to walk towards it, but you stumble and fall forward.
“Shit!” a scream leaves your mouth as you launch upright in your bed. You sigh. Just another dream. You shake yourself awake and head down the stairs of your home, into the kitchen for breakfast. Your father is nowhere to be seen, and a letter is lying face up on the table. It is addressed to you. You open it, with an inquisitive look on your face, and read through the contents. A short letter summoning you to the town's communal grounds, just beside the exit to Route 1... by the mayor of the town? This could be important.

Ryu Bateson:
Your knees are weak as you bend over in the scorching sun. The flimsy paint brush splinters in your hands as you dip it back in to the bucket of dull orange paint by your side. You groan and go back to repainting the dirty grey walls of your family’s market stall; the medicinal herb shop. Suddenly a young girl approaches the stall, running towards it with a scrap of paper in her hand. She arrives, panting, and begins to speak.
“No business today, sorry.” you drone, cutting her off.
The girl giggles, “Letter from the mayor, silly!”
She drops the scrap of paper on the counter of the stall, the counter that happens to still be covered with wet paint, you notice.
“Don’t be late!” She smirks. She spins around and runs off with a lopsided wave over the shoulder.

Theodore Hanson:
You slam the door, brimming with rage - a letter scrunched up in your hands. They were so clueless sometimes, your parents. Turning getting the mail into a bloody argument just because you wanted to send your drone instead. You sigh and sit down at your desk, straightening out the envelope on the table.
“Stupid letter, better be worth it.” You mutter.
You reach to the side and yank open the top drawer of the desk, pulling out a small flat piece of technology - your pocket scanner - and saved the contents of the envelope to your PC, in case you needed to check it out later. You put the device back in your draw and tear open the letter with your fingernails.
"A summons letter? From the mayor? What the hell..."

Franz ate a quick bowl of oatmeal, flavored with fresh honey and cream thinking all the while about what the letter could mean, a summons from the Mayor? Not knowing what to do Franz quickly packed his backpack, grabbing his meager supplies in hopes that maybe he could find, and catch a wild pokemon today. For days he has tried with no luck, without a pokemon of his own it has been hard going and even the weakling bugs and birds seem to break out of the pokeballs. But today was the day he would catch one! After packing his things, and scrawling a half legible note on the white board to tell his parents where he is off to Franz headed to meet the mayor.

Come on. Today of all days? Theodore had things to do, tools to build, chemicals to mix. God. He didn't even have a Pokemon yet, even though he had been trying to get a Joltik for months. But his parents, for whatever godforsaken reason, didn't believe him to be "ready." Come on, he was 18! Theodore sighed, and began collecting all of his mixing equipment into his bag, along with a few spare pester balls he had mixed a while back. He said goodbye to his parents and then started on his way to the mayor's office.

"Aw, geez," Ryu says, peeling the paper up off of the paint and giving it a flick. This doesn't really get any paint off of the envelope. It just flings a few droplets onto the ground. Despite the color orange that has taken over most of the page, Ryu can still make out the message. Apparently he's being summoned to the town's communal grounds, by none other than the mayor, no less.
"What?" Ryu says aloud. But he shrugs and folds the letter in on itself so that no paint is on the outside and reaches far enough into the stall to drop it safely to the floor in there. Any excuse to skip work, right? He'll apologize to mom later, but maybe even she wil understand. It's the mayor, after all.
He makes sure that his kendo stick is firmly in its sheath on his back and heads that way.

The mayor stands tall on his podium above the communal grounds. Despite the apparent formality and importance - the three youths and the mayor are the only people there.
“I’ve summoned you here for a very important reason, you understand?” The mayor began to drone on. “It is of vital importance you listen closely. All your parents and I have discussed this, and we believe that you three are mature enough to go on a journey as a group. We know none of you know each other, but I’m sure you’ll all get along just fine.”
“I know you must be excited, but you do have a mission to complete as well. I need you to take a special item to Prof. Savan in Rocksan City, and in return you will obtain your starter pokemon.”
“Until then, I’ll be lending you my Kadabra to ensure you make it through Route 1 safely. If you deem it necessary you can catch some Pokemon on the way there, but keep in mind Savan has hand picked some rare Pokemon specifically for you – so there’s no harm in waiting either.”
“I’m entrusting the package to Franz, as he is the most responsible out of the three of you – no offence Theo and Ryu. The exit to Route 1 is just behind me, as you know, and when you feel you have gathered supplies and are ready to head out; just let your parents and I know, and I’ll pass over my Kadabra and the package.” He steps down from his podium, the three youths standing awkwardly in front of him stood in shock as he turned and walked away like he’d just had a conversation about the weather.

Wow. Ryu isn't sure what to address first. Just like that, a Pokémon adventure begins for him today. And with teammates, to boot. He looks at the two who have been chosen to adventure with him. The mayor's right. He doesn't know these guys, but he's seen them around town over the years. They never stood out as bad seeds or anything. This should be fine.
"Man, this is all pretty sudden, huh?" he asks his fellow soon-to-be-Trainers. "Hi. I'm Ryu." He holds out his hand to shake theirs. "Guess we'll be hanging out a lot for the foreseeable future. I guess I'm pretty much ready to leave as it is, so I'll just hang out right here until the two of you are ready as well."

"Uhhhhhh...Thanks" Franz stated slightly blushing at the recognition as he received the pokemon. Turning to the others, "Names Franz, nice to meet you. I'm ready to leave as well"

"Theodore. Theodore Hanson."
Theodore had something of a scowl on his face as he introduced himself. Christ, at least he would finally get a damn Pokemon at the end of this.

The three adventurers stood together at the entrance to Route 1.
"Let's go let our parents know we're off then and then we'll get that loan Pokemon off of the mayor. Sound good?" Ryu addressed the group.
The youths agreed and two hours later they stood in front of the mayor, once again at the exit to Route 1.
"Franz, my Kadabra - Kinny." The mayor handed over a Pokeball to Franz "Treat him well, I expect him back after you have received your starters. That means you will have to backtrack, but it will give you another chance to catch some Pokemon on the trail up Route 1."
The Mayor stepped to the side and gestured behind him towards freedom.
"I leave you with these last few words before your adventure: Act on what you think is right, and remember that Pokemon are your friends - not tools or means to an end. Good luck."
And with that the three youths walked out of the town that they had not left for so long, and into the Keraeya Region.

Not many people left Cedaro, not unless they had to. The mountain trail down Route 1 to the nearby city was known to be somewhat dangerous. An uneven and rocky mountainside meant that a leisurely descent was not really an option; wild Pokemon were common on Route 1, so children were taught at an early age never to leave without a Pokemon or a parent by their side.
Ryu, Franz and Theo stood atop a small plateau, a long winding path stretched down the mountainside in front of them and flattened out into a small forested area. At the end of this route, Roksan city loomed in the distance. Even halfway up the Cedaro mountains, where the exit to Cedaro lay, the tops of the skyscrapers still reached further into the sky.
The adventurers began their descent.

"Glad that I thought to have us go tell our parents before we left," Ryu says. "The idea just came to me, like from a higher power or something. It almost felt like the words were coming out of my mouth on their own. So, Franz, since you've been entrusted with the strong Pokémon, why don't you take point?"

"sounds Good" Franz Stated as he began the trek to obtain there starters. Franz attempted to stay vigilant, looking around and listening for any signs of trouble as he walked.

Franz notices what appears to be an Oran bush, lying a little bit off of the beaten track. Walking over there could be dangerous due to the somewhat unreliable terrain - and you only have two Pokeballs between the three of you, courtesy of Franz, and a somewhat weak Kadabra to protect you. It's worth noting that you have no healing items yet. What do you do?

Franz takes note of the oran bush for later and continues on.

"Hey, you know what, guys?" Ryu says, suddenly not walking any further. "I don't know what I'm thinking, but I can't just leave my mom to run things by herself, even if she said it was okay. I wanna think the mayor picked us for a good reason, and that's flattering, but now's just not the right time for me, I feel. You two keep going. I'm heading back to town, though. Best of luck on your adventure."
Ryu turns around and walks back home.
